The Singing Teacher’s Guide to Transgender Voices by Liz Jackson Hearns and Brian Kremer

The Voice Book for Trans and Non Binary People by Matthew Mills and Gillie Stoneham. This book is written by two speech and language pathologists and can be a good starting point.

One Weird Trick, A User’s Guide to Transgender Voice, by Liz Jackson Hearns. Hearns is the co-founder of the Voice Lab in Chicago, a studio aimed at supporting the voices of all students.

Queering Choir: This is a great general resource on trans voice and choir.

Suggestions for Transgender inclusion in classical music: Xavia Publius. This doctoral thesis is a great resource and has a section on key repertoire and performers.

I’m a transgender composer: What the hell does that mean? This article from trans composer Alex Temple gives insights into their experience as a composer, whether composition is inherently gendered, and discrimination in the field.

Wendy Carlos was the first openly trans performer/composer that I encountered growing up. Her most famous album I remember is “Switched On Bach” and her compositions were featured in the films “A Clockwork Orange,” “The Shining,” and “Tron.” She popularized and revolutionized electronic music through her use of the Moog Synthesizer.
